Cheapish Photo Printer that's cheap to run (£57 inc vat)

I wanted to buy a printer to print the odd photo. I use internet based printers for most of my digital photos but sometimes you just want to print the odd one or two so I looked for a reasonable A4 printer that was going to be fairly cheap to run.
Oh My God there are lots of printer on the market!
After spending hours comparing & contrasting I thought I'd share my conclusion with MSE. I fear
I got an Epson c86 Photo Edition. It takes 4 seperate ink carts which 7dayshop sell for 99p each. It costs £57 at scan.co.uk and appears to offer good resolution, comes with proper ink carts (not mini ones like my £10 dell printer). The Photo Edition bit just seems to mean it comes bundled with a 6 in 1 card reader..
If I'd wanted to spend more on something to produce all my photos I would have opted for the Canon IP4000 at £90, great quality, double sided printing with carts available from 7dayshop for 99p each..
No doubt opinion will differ but if I can save someone the torment of trawling throught the options then I hope it's been worth it..

See if you can still get an Epson R200 as these offer very good printing capabilities + very cheap ink cartridges at https://www.ukdvdr.co.uk or https://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk.
Think Pixmania still had some.I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -
Agree with the Canon IP4000 but for something a bit cheaper would also add the Canon IP3000 both of which can print onto CDR and DVDR (printables) for£64.02 delivered from Ebuyer0

Note to self.. Post messages before ordering.
£64 for an ip3000 would be very good value but I couldn't find it (or the ip4000) at ebuyer. The new models are there, IP4200, IP5200 etc but I can't see any cheap ink for these yet..0 -
I must be more careful, it's £66.02 not £64.02 , used a pricerunner link but when you go to Ebuyer it's awaiting stock, sorry folks0

Feel a little guilty about getting peoples hopes up, but have just found a Canon authorised reseller on Ebay (Canon_uk1), lots of new and refurbished items at good prices including IP3000 and IP4000's. There's an IP3000 going in 50mins currently at £45 postage £5.99
