Hi Loopy,
It might be worth posting in the Techie forum too. The guys in there know their stuff and will give you a better idea on what to look for

Hi loopy lou, I just bought one for my son. It only holds about 40 tracks but I figure thats enough to be going on with. It cost £21 delivered, albeit I could have got cheaper but figured on a slightly better make.
As far as I see it, there are two kinds. The ones with storage cards (allowing you to store more tracks on the cards which you can interchange) and the ones without (which just rely on the memory and you changing the music). The main thing for my son was a little display telling him what track he was listening to.
I bought the latter here http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/product.asp?prod=608 but also saw cheapies at http://www.tesco.com/electrical/product.aspx?R=8251756.
Hope this helps.0 -
a little insight :
You can basically spend as much as you want on an MP3 player these days.
If you can stretch to it, get one that has "removable media" which is basically a memory card allowing you (as windym rightly said) to store more tracks.
There is also the "harddisk" route, which allows massive amounts of music to be stored, such things as Ipods have these.
As your daughter is 11, you might want to invest in one which is small, this would allow her to keep it easily in little pockets, meaning people wont know what kind it is, and are less likely to try to steal it.
It should come with everything you need, including a USB cable (to put songs from your computer onto the player), headphones, and maybe batteries, depending on whether its a rechargable battery or takes standard ones.
my advice would be get one that is atleast 256mb of memory, that should be ample for everyday use - about 150 songs.
You may also want to ask your daughter if she has one in mind, as she might be thinking along a different line to any advice, or she may only want a certain one etc.
I like this one on the iwantoneofthose.com website. includes radio and is pretty small.
Hope this helps a little

A few good prices I reckon. I ended up buying them for my girls from Aria. This is the link: http://www.mp3superstore.co.uk/ I got the 512mb Arianet value for £35.19 in VAT. Ordered on Sunday, Delivered today & they are really nice. Not that I know too much about MP3 playersSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

I bought an MP3 player from Eclipse Computers online for my 12 year old daughter. It was £29 including VAT. Here's the link:
Eclipse were quick to deliver, good customer service too.
I've looked at lots since, including the one for sale in Argos in the Christmas Gift Guide - it's the same generic MP3 player, just with different badging, only Argos is charging £49.99! Don't buy it from them!
My daughter has copied ALL of the Harry Potter audio books, two Terry Pratchett books, AND a couple of albums onto it already! I was 'allowed' to borrow it for a long, boring, journey and I downloaded some Radio 4 programmes to listen to - there was still space for them!
Good luck with your hunt!laurmurph0 -
