Recipes using residual oven heat

Hi folks. Does anybody know of any good recipies which can use residual oven heat?

As fuel is getting soooo expensive I would like to make the best use of the gas (and therefore heat) that I have already paid for. I already sometimes make meringues, croutons or dry leftover apple rings and leave them overnight in a cooling off oven but wondered if anyone had any good ideas for anything more interesting? Whenever I use the oven it has been on for a long time (I batch bake and make bread) so there is a good lot of heat left over.

Sorry if this question has been asked before - I am a relative newbie to this (although a long time lurker) and if I spent as much time on this site as I wanted to I would never get anything done!:o

I have cooked quite a few different kinds of biscuits in a cooling oven. When I have cooked something else I turn it off and shove two trays in. Makes it harder to burn them that way too!!

Otherwise, I have also dried out walnuts I have cracked to store.

I think to take best advantage, I would plan my batch cooking or whatever you are cooking so that the quick cook things are left for last, eg, biscuits, or maybe something like homemade crackers, and then turn the oven off and try and cook them? Maybe even pretzels or breadzels would work too??

It is winter here and when I am finished I just throw the door wide open and let the heat out into the room!! :rotfl: Makes me more inclined to do the dishes...

Hi ZoeGirl, thanks for this, I had forgotten about pretzels and crackers, something to think about with Xmas on the way

By the way, I have the perfect solution for doing the dishes in a freezing winter kitchen - I have a 2-legged dishwasher and he does them all .........:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
