Maybe other have tips too to add to this thread
I will start with tip No 1 (there some things that Paypal does not really want you to know)
1) Whenever you can pay at on online shop with Paypal do so. BUT make sure you don't pay from your bank account. You have an option to add a credit card to your Paypal account. Use that credit card to fund the purchase. That way you have double protection if the store does not ship or something else goes wrong.
If something goes wrong you can file a dispute with Paypal. BUT you can then also file a chargeback with your credit card company and those are harder to win for the stores!!!

Good tip.
I can't see how to select a credit card option on the Paypal site - any suggestions?0 -
I am sure I read on the eBay forum on this forum that this is not the case. The credit card companies transaction is with Paypal not the person you purchased the item off. The onward transaction is with Paypal to customer.
EDIT: I cannot find the post in question so I may have been imagining things.0 -
Here is a link that might help on the chargebacks https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/seller/ChargebackRisk-outside#Q1
AND

Thanks for the info but there doesn't seem to be an option to make the c/c the primary source of funding for purchases.0

Yes, I know, Paypal actively discourages account holders to pay via credit card because they dont make that much money on CC transactions. With those they have to pay a percentage to the credit card company.
You can change it only when you actually make a purchase and are about to pay. Paypal will only show you the option then.0
