Hi,
I've been pureeing/mashing veg and fruit for my little boy, and freezing it, but am rapidly running out of containers. I used to freeze it in ice cubes and then put it in freezer bags, but he's starting to eat more now, so needs loads of ice cubes in one go...
I wondered if I could use the jars (babyfood jars) to store food and freeze it? I wasn't sure if I'd be able to, as they have a seal/vacuum thingy when you first open them, so would it be ok to wash them out and re-use them?
Also - I give him tinned fruit sometimes, could I freeze this too? It's nice to add into yoghurt as a dessert for him.
And finally, is there a thread for recipes for baby food? (He's 7 months btw)
Thanks

Hi there I used to line yogurt pots with freezer bags, put the food in the bags and then place in the freezer, once frozen I would remove it from the yogurt pot and they stacked neatly in the freezer. Not sure about the glass if there was any minute cracks they might break further with the expansion in the freezer. I would freeze the tinned fruit too - possibly puree it and put it in the ice cube trays. At this time of year I would puree strawberries, rasps, blueberries, apples etc and they could be used all winter with yogurt or home made custard, rice, semolina etc.just an ideaEvery days a School day!0

I used the disposable plastic drinking cups for mine, you get them in packs of 100 from pound shop, maybe even cheaper elsewhere.
As for recipes, my kids' favourites were chicken, potatoes, carrots, brocolli, cauliflower, peas, sweetcorn etc with baby gravy which went from being pureed in food processor to mashed to small lumps as their weaning progressed. As above but with minced beef like a cottage pie or the chicken replaced with cod and a home-made milky sauce rather than gravy as a fish pie, sieved baked beans, pureed fruit for pudding, banana and custard.Debt busting! Hiya,
If you search for Jam/preserve making on this forum you'll find how to sterilise the jars for re-use. Involves drying them out in the oven.

I too used yoghurt pots.
I've never tried freezing glass. I'm not sure it would be a good idea. i may be wrong.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
