One Car Family?

Yes, we got rid of our second car when I was on maternity leave a couple of years ago. OH has a company car which he uses all of the time. Walking is fine for a while but I hate it in winter when it is cold and wet.
Did look into getting a 7 seater but the cost of purchasing it let alone running it, made it a no go. If we do need to have a car to go on holiday, then will rent. In the meantime, my M-i-L does the school run so I haven't lost any baby weight as I don't go out!

We've never had two cars but we manage by DH cycling to the station then getting the train to work. I need the car to take kids to school 2 miles away then to work once a week across town. If he really needs the car, kids get the school bus. We work it out, never been tempted to have two cars due to cost, but I can imagine its hard if you have an OH who hogs it or whatever!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

we are trying this at the moment. we are trying to just do with one car. Where we are the buses are pretty good, so it is doable. BUT the bus journey is nearly an hour long, and OH is having to get up a lot earlier than he is used to in order to make it work. It wouldn't surprise me if, in the end he gets a 250cc motorbike or similar as this wouldn't cost as much as another car, but would save about 40 minutes each way

Hiya we went from 2 cars to 1 about this time last year and we were fine until dd started preschool in feb and there were a couple of days that becasue of weather I just couldnt walk her there (I tried but the wind was blowing her over!) so in april OH done his cbt and has a 125cc bike at the minute. It has worked out really well as its cheaper than a 2nd car so we can just about afford it and it means I can get about with the kids in the summer hols, I also have voluntry work to do once a week and need the car to pick my sister up to babysit. We tried the when I need the car taking OH to work but he needs to be at work at 5am and I really dont even know that time in the morning plus it makes for tired grumpy kids.0
