I think that they have a generous offer for the value of their homes. Maybe they want more to cover the hassle of moving.

The opening photos are a picture of the future for the new build apartments that have been thrown up in recent years. With a lack of 'young professionals' seeking 'luxury executive' accommodation, the flats, where occupied, will become the new social housing. Unable to cover the service charges these flats will fall into rapid disrepair.

In a few years time (I don't think it will take very long), the difference between the builders glossy brochures and the new reality will be staggering.

What really annoys me is the targeting of naive FTB's by the builders and their agents. The opening photos should be stuck across every new build flat billboard as a [strike]health[/strike] wealth warning.

ah so you have heard of the glasgow tradeston development, they cant sell 200k flats for 60k at auction lol.

the weird thing is council houses tend to have suspiciously low tax bands which isa good thing if you try and encourage people to come off benefits, many of the newbuilds local to me are tax band F & G or £2300-2600 council tax  with rates like that as opposed to the many bigger sandstone flats with lower tax and you pretty much guarantee most of your tenants will be on benefits.

Actually I think it's sad, that people are still living in flats like this, much less being encouraged to buy them. What a shame.

I agree its sad people are still living there. Much of the site has been declared unsafe and its literally falling down. Many of them have been set on fire.

But the situation is that a few people did buy them and are now being encouraged to get out, and being offered £120k to do so. Having said that, I read today that the developer of the proposed new apartments, Crest Nicholson, is in trouble - http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/construction_and_property/article4499314.ece Seems likely it will be delayed then
