Help givin' Paypal a kick up the !!!!!! !!

I had a chargeback filed against me on 25 Aug 2005 for an item I sold on 30 May 2005 worth £200 or so claiming to be a fraudulant transaction.

Anyways, I contacted the buyer ( well buyer's Mum ! ) who genuinely apologised saying that she had notified her credit card after she didn't initially recognise the payment on her statement ( she'd paid for something on her son's behalf ). On realising her mistake she had on numerous occassions contacted her credit card to say that the transaction was genuine.

So, like Paypal do, they took the money from my account while the transaction was being 'investigated'.

I have spoken to Paypal via telephone on numerous occassions, explaining that both the buyer and seller ( me ! ) are happy about the transaction, I even provided contact details for the buyers Mum for them to call for themselves !

Two and a half months later, I'm *still* waiting on *any* contact from Paypal, despite my requests *and* I'd like my money back !! Especially as the credit card used was debited again a few weeks back !!

I remember reading on this forum about an email threatening legal action agains Paypal which did the trick and got them to pay up. Could someone perhaps remind me as to how to go about it please ?

Thanks for your help :)

I had the same problem with Paypal, they are slow and innefficient. My claim has been going on since June and got an email today saying they could not refund me as the buyers CC refused even though buyer clearly stated that they made an error...

    .......contact the Financial Services Authority
may not make much difference to your case personally, nor the next, but it's like wasp stings, one or two hurts a little, thousands and thousands is enough to kill
Hopefully the FSA will eventually get off their collective !!!!!! and kill paypal's bad ways, till then we have to suffer (presumably due to some high level FSA members or MP's having significant shares of a paypal partner company)

effectively though, the buyer decided that this £200 transaction that appeared on her card, probably saying something like PAYPAL INTERNATIONAL didn't ring enough bells for her to remember that she bought something using PAYPAL INTERNATIONAL so she cancelled the transaction??

Irrespective of her goodwill by phoning the credit card company its HER who owes you the money. I would phone her and explain that she has your goods and through no fault of your own YOU are out of pocket to the tune of £200. I'd be pushing her for payment OR return of the goods and if that doesn't work ultimately pursuing it through the small claims court.

No doubt she will whine on about being afraid the transaction will be processed twice, however she will have to rely on your good nature to refund if that happens, as opposed to you having to rely on everyone elses good nature to get YOUR money.

    I hate Paypal.

They'll take money back from honest people such as yourself without a moment's thought, yet you try to get money back from conmen and they don't lift a finger to help.

Can we please get back on topic in this thread. The OP has asked for advice and I don't think general rants about paypal are appropriate.

If someone can provide further information to help the OP then please do so although I'm sure some of the information already provided by regulars has been of use.

i'd rather be a firm (or nasty!) person and have my money, than be a nice person £200 down! Paypal haven't got your money, the credit card company dont have it - SHE does! Currently i don't see any motivation on her part as she has the money and your doing all the running around!

If she really wants to pay (!) you could invoice her again through paypal and have her repay it.
  • Just send her your paypal address and get her to send you the money as goods other, no ebay references etc
