Shocked by my OR ... but in a good way!!!

After my telephone interview with the OR back in May, I was sent a figure of £199 for an IPA payment (which equated to £332 surplus per month).

This I didnt agree with - so sent a letter with more evidence - suggesting that I could pay £122 IPA payment (£244 per month surplus) ...

... and they've agreed to it!!!

I'm in shock to be honest as I was fully expecting an argument with them - I'm quite happy to pay them this amount as we should be able to stay within a budget even with that coming out each month.

They want the first payment to start on/around 1 October for 36 months - is this correct - just this is the 4th month I've been BR.

Just goes to show that you should query the IPA amount if you honestly feel that they've gone a bit too far!

The only thing I've got to sort out now is the amount i'm expected to pay for the nill tax code - as in the last letter it suggested a figure of £45 per week (£180 per month) - yet I pay £243 per month tax at the moment.

Can anyone advise that the OR's collectors will take charge of the IPA monthly amount AND the nill tax code amount?

    Good news indeed.

The IPA is an agreement. And you didn't agree with their first figure so offered an affordable alternative figure that they have agreed to. It seems both parties are happy on this occasion. Well done!!

The IPA runs for 36 months from your first payment. Remember though. If you income goes up or down during that 36 month period, you are legally obliged to inform the OR.

Not sure about the Tax coding question though, sorry.

Finito, thanks for the reply - am aware of me having to let them know about any pay rises ... for some weird reason where I work they did it so that this year we get 2 (one from start of May, and another at the start of October) - so I'll be writing to them at the end of October (1 month after the first payment) to say that i've had a pay rise (it's only 30p an hour extra so I'm hoping they might just say keep it!)

Great news, you've just saved yourself £3,168 over the next 3 years.

That's a lot of money when you look at it that way!!!

Will be sending the signed form off Monday, so will probably here from the OR's people about what happens re paying it - as it'll have to come out of my husbands bank account (where my wages are paid into also) - does anyone know if they do direct debits or standing orders?

    Good luck for Monday!

Like Finito said, it is an agreement and I didnt agree to the initial amount.

I do have to say that I only reduced my surplus by £96 down to £244 (from £330), I think if I'd tried for any more then they may not have been that understandable. You have to be careful as that's when they then can request further evidence, and even take you back to court for the court to agree - which I just didnt want to do - I even put in the letter to them that I was willing to neogiate on the figure paid rather than it go back to court - and it's obviously worked!

Well done fudge, I wish my OR had been so understanding. I disagreed with my IPA but was pretty much told that it was tough!
For the record my first payment didn't come out until about three months after I went BR.
