Hoping to start my own business...

Options
Hi all, after being royaly shafted by the student loans company, I'm having to take a year out of uni to save up a couple of thousand for my final year tuition fee's.

I'm thinking of starting a small business in computer lessons. I'm extremely good with computers and have always wanted to become a teacher one day. I'm thinking of offering 1 to 1 lessons at the customers home for £15 an hour or £10 for OAP's.

I'm looking for some opinions on how to go about advertising and any further advice would be great - cheers

Well a website would be a good idea for this as with the right marketting you could then find a lot of people who just about know how to get online but not much else.

It may be an idea to write to schools and see if they would advertise for you.

Another idea could be to use those little adverts you get in local shops or post offices, wont cost much and gives you a chance to test the water.
  • Yes that is a good idea. There are loads of usually older people who want to use the internet at home but have no clue how to start.Someone who can go to them and help them through the first steps of getting online, how to browse and search, how to shop online, how to send and recieve e-mails etc would be very useful. All this is simple stuff but many people just dont have the confidence to get stuck in and learn as they go,they could use someone like you.The prices you suggest are very reasonable too.Maybe even being able to set up their computer and internet service so its ready to use as most stores do not offer this service.Good luck.

Make sure you cover all of your expenses, when you decide on your hourly rate and before you publicise it. I think you may need to charge a bit more.

    Good luck.
