Cars & BR

My car is worth about 1K and I am really hoping that I'll be able to keep it.
Does anyone know if occasional hospital visits for a child would be likely to help my case?
Thanks

Hi MrsST,
Nothings ever certain when it comes to what the OR will allow when it comes to keeping a car. However from the little info you have provided and a little help from some of the good people on here I think your chances of keeping it will be very good.
How often to you need to go to the hospital and how would the costs of keeping the car and running it compare with taxis for the hospital run and other essential journeys???

i think you would need a better reason. My car is a Landrover worth approx £1200, it was exempted on the grounds that I am unemployed and seeking work in areas more than 30 miles from my home. I have seen cars exempt on medical grounds but think a doctor's cert is required...someone in different circumstances may offer more info.

Thank you.
What do they consider to be 'essential'?
I have 2 year old twins and getting out to anywhere without a car is almost impossible. I'm not in sensible walking distance (for small children) of public transport and obviously taking them in the buggy makes doing a proper shop difficult, to say the least!0 -
I think in some way you could stress it is essential and not just convenient helps, but I think it does depend on the OR

Here are some links from Fermi's sticky at the top of the page, they may help you prepare a letter to the OR.

Thats the link to the OR,s guide on whether to treat a vehical as exempt your best bet is to have a good read and find as many situations that are in there you could apply to you
but as already stated there is a great inconsistancey as to the OR,s iterpretation of all that so there is no sure fire way of making a perfect case for vehicle exemption im afraidThats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all ………….

Thanks for all the advice.
Some light reading there....................
I'll see what applies and hope for the best. Being without a car would be such a nightmare and I'd never get to see my family, but I'm hoping it won't come to that.0 -
