Dell Computer

Hello all,

I am soon to be buying a dell computer and was wondering if anyone knew of any money saving tips or voucher codes to use when purchasing from dell? any ideas would be greatfully received.
Alternatively if for any reason i shouldn't be buying a dell computer and should be getting one from somewhere else, then please advise. I don't know a lot about computers, but dell seem to be quite good, and i like the warrenty you get with your pc.

Thanks for any help anyone can give,
have a good day

Dell are very good by the way - I have one and am very happy. They regularly win customer satisfaction surveys (which counts for more with me than cheap prices on something like this), and have a good reputation for reliability.

I think you would get more advice over on the techie board though. There are several threads like this on there too if you have a look around:

  • I've just taken a look at the Dell website. Their cheapest laptop (InspironTM 2200) is headlined at £399 but when you get into the detail you can't get one for under £493. Am I missing something or this this a marketting scam/typo of some sort?

Change the warranty to 90 day collect & return and it knocks £94 off making £399.

That's right. For some reason whenever you click on a Dell suggested model it will upgrade the warranty, increasing the price.

I don't know why they do this as many people will not understand why the price has jumped (like you didn't) and go elsewhere.
  • Look for their adverts in the papers most days. They have special offers - can be double memory or free delivery (worth about £50 I think). The advert will give a product code which you can then use to search on their website.

All my family have Dell computers (following the ads) and they are brilliant! :T
  • I got my laptop from Dell earlier this year, after I ordered it I actually changed my mind and rang to cancel. They offered to knock £50 off the price if I didn't cancel.
  • I've ordered a laptop (Inspiron 6000) from dell, they sent the wrong one, then when they sent the replacement, it didn't have any rubber pads on the bottom so it slid around the desk. They sent a third one and on that one the pads don't line up so it still slides a bit.

Their customer service seems ok but it's the fact that the units are manufactured in Ireland which is the main problem. The customer service advisors are doing all they can to help and are being very sympathetic. Which is what I expect really after being messed around.
