High-end 3D modelling and animation Package free

TrueSpace 7.6 is free! This is the very latest version, previous versions cost several hundred pounds.

For anyone wanting to dabble in 3D, this is an absolute must-have. It isn't the best package, but it's close and has far more than someone just starting could need. The video tutorials are also free, and used to cost $99 by themselves. You can create everything from cartoon animations to photo-realistic images. Don't be fooled though, it takes a lot of time and effort to come close to Pixar's creations ;)

Don't forget about the free (as in speech/freedom, and as in beer) and open source Blender, either. ;) It's well-regarded as one of the best 3D modelling, animation, and video-editing packages out there. It's also available for most OSes, and if it's not available for yours, you're free to port it yourself because they give you the source code. It's currently available for Linux (for 32 and 64 bit processors), Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Solaris, and Windows.

Big Buck Bunny, a film they've made with the new version of Blender, which is currently gathering a lot of kudos around the world, is in the official selection for the Netherlands Film Festival, and is even going to be screened in the theatres of Disney Feature Animation, Dreamworks Animation, and Rhythm & Hues Studios during SIGGRAPH week next week.

Yes, another good one. They are compeletely different interfaces, so you tend to find people stick with one or the other (most 3D software is very unique). I find TrueSpace more intuitive personally, although the word intuitive is used lightly!

Other simple free options include Wings 3D and Anim8or. These are much simpler, but have far fewer options and are dedicated to modelling only and animation respectively.
    Thanks in advance,

I second that - had a great review on the BBC Click show (available right now on the iPlayer)

    Hello people.

For all you begginners like myself try google Sketchup

    http://sketchup.google.com/

It is pain free compared with others i have tried and generally failed to use. I actually managed to get something that looked like what i was trying to draw not just a blank page and then giving up after a few hrs.
  • If you have a valid "college/school" email address you can join the autodesk student comunity, like i have. for those who dont know what there software is, they are the industry leader in civil building design enginering software, in the form of a C.omputer A.ided D.esign program (CAD), specificaly, AutoCAD 2011, a usally expensive item ($4000+ in America) for free. Other top-of-the-line software for free includes 3DS MAX, Maya and Inventor, all once expencive, now FREE
  • For the younger (much younger) end of the spectrum I use a free animation program called Scratch, it is designed by MIT and has lots of useful guidance and help online. My kids love it.:j

A good free 3D animation software package I have came across in recent weeks is Muvizu (pronounced "moviezoo") http://www.muvizu.com. I have also posted this on the freebies forum on a separate post but I suppose it doesn't hurt to put it here as well.
It appears to be gathering a really good following since it was featured on BBC Click 2 weeks ago http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ne/8885276.stm (about 2mins 20secs in)
It is pretty easy to learn and there is loads of tutorials on the website. It can get you some pretty impressive results as well. I think there is a new release (to introduce camera animation) along with a new webiste design coming out next week .
The only downfall I can find so far is that alot of people on the forums are having problems running it if they don't have a good graphics card plus the download can take sometime but it is free so really worth it in the end :)
Free stuff is GOOD stuff :p
