Banana Muffins

Really sorry to ask this because after searching I can see that this subject has been done to death :o

I'm quite a new baker so I want to make sure I get this right. Am planning on making banana muffins this afternoon but I'm reading conflicting advice over which flour to use!

This recipe says plain:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com:80/showpost.html?p=467687&postcount=90 (I know it's for bread, but it does say okay for muffins too) but this one says self-raising: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=687213&postcount=5

Utterley confused  please help me oh expert bakers of OS :D

I use plain with baking powder, or self raising without. I've never used self raising with baking powder as in recipe no 2, as it should already have a raising agent in, which combined with the eggs should be fine to give the muffins the necessary lift.

    Thank you :)

So, is the bicarb of soda the baking powder then? :o And that's what makes them rise?

I'm SUCH a novice...... probably not safe to be in the kitchen really.....

No - they are different. This link explains it much better than I can though!

It is baking powder you need for the muffins though if you use plain flour IME.
