I think it's right that it'd only be recent BTL'ers that'd be affected - our Landlord bought the house we're in over 6 years ago now, yet our rent's only gone up £100 in those 6 years - have a feeling they may have bought out right.

I know in our area, unless you want to rent something either huge, or a penthouse suite for example, the rents arent too badly priced for 3 beds at least.

  • Just been on the news theres a big increase in house reposessions!!!! Its not good news

I love news stories that claim a startling headline like 48% increase, but did they give any figures as to a 48% increase on what figure?

If it was 10 then its not big news if it was a million then it is, saying a percentage increase on its own is not that informative unless you now the figure its based on so did they say?

(can you tell i dont watch the news much:p )

Was around half the number of the worst year in the early 90s.

Unfortunately, as stressed by govt, this is happening at a time of relatively low interest rates and high employment (for some reason govt spokespeeps think this is good!)...
  • The BBC article states 48% more repossessed than previous year. In economics high employment and low interest rates is supposed to be good....unfortunately external factors are creating problems especially for industry!!!

  • :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Thanks for proving my point guys and this is in no way a dig at you, more the way the media is playing with us all

so we have an increase of 48% based on the previos year and it equates to half the number of the worst year in the early 90,s, and that tells us what:confused: sweet FA

The press are masters at this , you all remember the situation in relation to what they told you but no actuall numbers so that all means nothing:confused:

Question is did they actually give any numbers in the first place or not:rolleyes: or are they just quoting meaningless stats:confused:

    Makes you wonder doesnt it;)

PS im sure there are figures out there somewhere (que fermi:p ) but its funny all anyone remembers is the percentages:confused:

The figures are in that BBC article Tigerfeet linked to I think. :p
The Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said there were 18,900 repossessions in the six months to June, up from 12,800 in the same period last year.

Plus other supposedly "informative" stats. ;)

That sort of drives the point home as my question was 48% of what figure and although it was published the only answers i got was more percentages that mean nothing:confused:

Maybe its just me and the way i look at things but i just find the quoting of % rises and falls without the figure behind that % really funny and it seems a lot of people dont pay attention to them

and when you think it went up in reality 6100 repos in a country of how many million homeowners?(12 milion i saw quoted the other day:confused: ) its not quite as big a story as it makes it out to be really is it when you look at the whole picture, dont get me wrong its still not good but its not as alarming as the figure 48% increase headline makes it sound and thhats without taking a lot of other factors into account that its far too late (early ) to bother going into

But like i say that may be just the way i see things

Mention statistics ...well it's my job!
    June 2007 12800 repos
    june 2008 18900
increase of 6100 equates to 47.7% close enough!
