Hello and nervous about situation.

Hello all,
I've been around mse for a few years now and have picked up lots of budgeting tips, I claimed back some bank charges about 2 years ago.
However I split from my husband 14 months ago and until a few months ago I was coping with the repayments from mainly my student debt and increased credit offered in that period.
However I got hit with a lot of bank charges one month earlier this year and cancelled my DD's to the credit cards as I had no money to pay them, I then sat down and looked at my figures and did some reading on here and then I rang the cccs who advised me to go bankrupt.
It has taken me awhile to accept that this is the only option as I have tried on numberous occasions to get a loan to consolidate everything. I was resigned to just paying the minimum payments until my financial situation improved but realistically I just can't keep up
I logged back on here last night and re-read this forum and now am going to ring up the court to book an appointment for my petition.
I received a possession notice from my landlord this morning, I'm with a housing association and I actually only owe them £70 which I paid this morning however I do receive housing benefit and this is paid 4 weeks in arrears so my rent statement looks worse than it is. My housing benefit goes in today and I've paid off the remainder so my account is now clear I obviously need to respond to the letter but it seems a bit harsh when the woman who's name is on my letter knows the housing benefit situation.
2 of my debts are with DCA's and another with a solictor so I am feeling the pressure of jumping when the door bell goes and having to keep the kids from answering it. My telephone is permentantly unplugged unless I want to make a call as well.
I had lots of little queries but my mind has gone blank!
Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the club. Sounds like you have good control over tings. Ring your H/A and let them know you are up to date with your rent. That does seem really harsh about your arrears only being £70.

Thank you for the support, I've done lots of reading but haven't gone through this before! I only feel a bit in control because of MSE and what other people have posted on other threads, they are such a wonderful source of information and reasurance.
Just rang my court and I'm booked in for the 19th of this month !!! 11 days time! I was expecting a longer wait actually, But in a way I am looking forward to getting it over and done with as it's something that I've been thinking about for months and months now.
So I'm going to fill in the forms this weekend.
Now that it is actually happening I feel all scared but relieved all at the same time.
I've told my good friends who have all been really supportive but have yet to tell my family, they will be gutted, I'm not looking forward to that at all

Hi Mellie and welcome. Well done on taking the steps you need to get your life back in control.
Are you filling out the forms on line or by hand?
If you have any questions on the forms there is usually someone around who can help.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Hi and welcome,
If you have any questions about the forms just ask away, theres always someone to help. Also if you post your SOA up it can be tweaked for you too.
Edit: Tiger beat me to it!!!!"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

Did you ask the court how many copies of your SOA they need as this can vary frm 1-3. Also if you are in receipt of certain benefits you will get £150 knocked off the fees. If you do qualify make sure you have an up to the date benefits letter as the courtsare pretty hot on this.
Yes not many of us here had gone bc before and this site is empowerment. A little knowledge goes a long way;) . As the others have said the forms can be a little daunting so any problems just shout.DFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

Last friday turned out to be quite memorable in the end as apart from booking my court date my husband turned up as he wants a divorce asap to remarry!! Have been quite low since, hence hiding away a bit and not posting.
Logged on yesterday to start filling in my forms online and I have a few questions.
My car is an asset - but which of the sections in 3.1 do I put it under??
Also I bought the car last year with my parents after I seperated from my husband - It was £500 and they paid £250, the car documents are all in my name and it wasn't a loan, should I say that I only own half of the car??
I'm wondering whether to change my court day, is this possible? I'm booked in for Tuesday. As I received a letter yesterday saying that a refund was going through - I'd given up on this as I started it about 6 months ago and it's £250, it's going into my bank account and I was told that it was going to be done yesterday but it is really tight to have cleared by Tuesday morning.
I've mucked up the order in which to sort my bank accounts out as I opened a Co-op account a few months ago but am using it as my main account. The majority of my debt is with Barclays so would be unlikely to open another account with them I guess. I can get some payments direct to me as cash but need something for my tax credits / child benefit. Should I open a Post Office account today or wait until after the bankruptcy? And does anyone know how long it takes to set up? Also could I get paid by giro for a few weeks?? I thought that they'd stopped that but read somewhere else that it might be possible.
I get some Housing / council benefit and I asked about what info the court needed for me to apply for the fee to be waived and he said that the most important thing was 3 months of bank statements. I thought that I would bring everything I had!!
The online form says print out 3 copies, so I was just going to do that to be safe.
Thanks for all your help so far, it's appreciated.

My car is an asset - but which of the sections in 3.1 do I put it under?? you list your car under assets 14) Motor vechicles, then tick yes on 3.7 then give details.
Also I bought the car last year with my parents after I seperated from my husband - It was £500 and they paid £250, the car documents are all in my name and it wasn't a loan, should I say that I only own half of the car??if you have a paper trail to prove this then yes.
I'm wondering whether to change my court day, is this possible?Yes just ring the court and say you won't have your petition ready by then so can they give you another date.

The majority of my debt is with Barclays so would be unlikely to open another account with them I guess. There have been posteron here who have had debts with barclays and still opened a new basic accoun with them. I can get some payments direct to me as cash but need something for my tax credits / child benefit. Should I open a Post Office account today or wait until after the bankruptcy? yes ou can open one now.And does anyone know how long it takes to set up? Also could I get paid by giro for a few weeks?? Yes thank you, you answered all my questions

Yes I've opened a cashminder account so hopefully I can still use it afterwards. Opening the Post Account was quite long winded, you do need a few weeks for it all to go through but hopefully it's sorted now.
Off to court in the morning - feeling very nervous but sort of calm about the whole thing! Am looking forward to tomorrow evening.0 -
WEll all done today.
Spent most of the day sat around at the court waiting and being sent off for cofffee breaks but it all went through smoothly and I missed the call from the OR as my phone was still on silent and he was busy ringing other people so he hasn't got back to me yet.
I feel just shattered more than anything else!0
