Previous employer not responding to my P45 pleas!

I worked for an agency for 6 weeks for maternity cover. Was ended as the person I was covering wanted to go back to work as already had 6 months off (was another person that did the first 4.5 months). The pay was weekly.

Now, the job ended 5 weeks today and still haven't received my P45. I was hoping I would have got it a few days after my last pay - as has happened in the past. So after a week since my final pay, I started to contact the agency by phone and e-mail. Emails weren't acknowledged and phone calls were 'soandso is out of the office/on lunch/at a meeting and will contact you as soon they are back'. Never got a call back. I have done at least one e-mail and one phone call per working day since then. Then has they haven't responded for 2 weeks, I wrote a letter to the manager of the office sent recorded. I posted this on Saturday 2nd Aug and haven't heard a squeak from them.

As I am trying to claim JSA at the moment, I cannot have it processed and paid until the Job Centre either receive a P45 or a letter from the company stating dates of employment. The tax office will contact the agency by letter and when I signed on today, I took a copy of the letter sent to the agency. The job centre said they would fax it to where claims are processed. They may give me the benefit of the doubt, or the agency may get a personal call from HMRC!!!

I would love to go to the agency office, but it's 80 miles away. I don't have the money to drive 160 miles in a day. If the office was a lot nearer, I would done a sit in protest until they give me my P45! The workplace was only 10 miles away.

Has anyone had to go through this just to get a P45? My friend once just phoned her previous employer and they apologized and received her P45 within 48 hours!

This agency also lost my P45 from the job before, a faxed copy and a P46 and having to wait SEVEN weeks for £140-150 back.

chase up agency by email or via their site, and copy in head office- should get P45 v shortly after last pay received.

in meantine, send/fax copies of payslips to benefits office- these should have a running total of earnings & tax etc paid.

Have a word with 'your obedient servant' and apparently they will growl a bit at you previous employers and if they are not forthcoming have a nasty bite.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
