Why is job hopping so bad?

I do hope that you use skills based format for your CV rather than a traditional chronolgical one. This is far more suited to a person in your situation and can turn a negative into a positive.

This is OT to the OP. But I wanted to say thank you for making my CV look better. I'm looking a job in retail but I have had different types of jobs inbetween retail ones. If I highlight the retail work instead of chronological, this could stand out to the employer more. Obviously, this would only work when applying for retail vacancies - lol!

Ok, so you say its reality but the reality is its working for some of us. Maybe its the industries we work in, maybe we explain ourselves in interviews better. I'm not planning to do this for 20-25 yrs because obviously it will look bad. I'm still in an early part of my career and have learnt a huge amount from job hopping, but as I said once I reach a plateau I will settle in a role... probably once I reach CEO.
Living the good life spending all my money but loving it!!
  • Funny in IT as a perm it is good to show stability and no gaps. As an IT contractor it is acceptable to have had lots of jobs that might not even be loosely related, career breaks and months off, bar work etc. and no one seem to care.

It's not really a case of highlighting certain jobs but of drawing the employer's attention to the relevant skills you have.

Nobody should use the same CV all the time if they're going for a variety of types of work. It's rather like having a "wardrobe" of different CVs to choose from, in the same way that you would select different outfits to wear for interviews for different types and levels of employment.

Hiring a contractor is a fairly low risk - if they turn out to be a lemon, you can just fire them. Having said that, if I see a contractor CV with loads of 3 and 6 month contracts with no extensions the alarm bells start ringing
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

That's because they're self employed so you have a contract with a company rather than a contract with an employee so there's a who raft of employees rights which don't have to be adhered to at all.
