changing energy suppliers

hi,
a couple of weeks ago i wanted to change our fuel suppliers and go for a fixed tarrif, but i noticed in their terms and conditions that they do a credit check, so i didnt bother. has anybdy else tried to change, or been refused?. its too late now because i think they have pulled the fixed charges, but im thinking they may offer again at a later date.
regards dennis.

    Hi,
I'm sorry I can't really help on this one. I do remember someone saying a bit ago about changing their gas/electricity supplier and them having to pay a bond but I can't find the link. Hopefully someone who knows better will be along shortly :)

  • The same applies to all utilities and broadband. I can give you some specific examples.

Toucan: phone/broadband - referred, but accepted - no deposit required.
British Gas: Electricity - accepted with £90 deposit, refundable (with interest) after 6 months.
Npower: Electricity - accepted with no questions asked/depsit required.
    Atlantic: Gas - as above.

As you can see I've made a number of changes since bankrupt, and only once have I ever been asked for a deposit. Each company is different, some credit score, some don't.

I don't think you'll find it a big issue therefore.

thanks for the info, i suppose you cant blame them for taking a bond, ill give it a go but not yet ill have to find some bond money lol
  • Whilst still br i had no problem changing supplier, however I still owed my original supplier some money so they put a block on the switch until everything had been paid in full.
