Free qualifications (literacy / numeracy).

http://catalogue.learndirect.co.uk/qualifications/details/547710/

Learn Direct offer certificates for adult literacy & numeracy at their centres (England and Wales only).

These are really useful for anyone who left school a while ago and have no recent qualifications. I took mine a few years ago.

Obviously there's a bit of effort involved, (but no cost as far as I'm aware).
It's nice to be important.....but it's more important to be nice :)

I have done these! Although apparently they are irrelevant if you already have GCSEs in English and Maths at C or above (I do), they can be a godsend for people that didnt as most employers will take these two qualifications as an equivalent to GCSE maths and english (as long as you do level 2). Level 2 is equivalent to Grade A-C, Level 1 is equivalent to grades D and below.

Another good provider of free courses is www.vision2learn.com where I have gained 2 qualifications for free.
