desperate for knitting advice!

hi i come from a long line of knitters and after many years of half hearted attempts ive finally finished something (much to my families amazement).in order to prove this wasnt a fluke im attempting a jumper for my daughter which was going well front and back both done perfect. until i came to the sleeves now am i being thick here

cast on 17
1st rib row k1p1 to end
2nd row p1 k1 to end beg with krow
ss 22 rows inc 1st each end of next row
DONE ALL ABOVE NO PROB

inc 4 following 4th rows-27 stitches- THIS IS THE BIT I DONT GET!INCREASING 4 DOESNT MAKE 27 I HAVE REDONE THIS SLEEVE 3 TIMES!!!

im sure its all staring me in the face if anyone anywhere understands what the flaming pattern is trying to say please please respond its driving me crackers and i so dont want to give up on it now
thanks in advance

    Right, start with 17.
Inc 1 at each end of row = 19
    Inc 1 EACH END of next 4 4th rows = 19 + 8 = 27

You have to increase each end or your sleeve won't be symetrical. HTH
  • think im getting this so *knit 3 rows inc 1 each end of next row (4th row) then repeat from * 3 more times then i get 27
    you are a STAR!!!
makes complete sense now thanks soooooooooo much my daughter may get to wear this jumper whilst it fits her now!!!!!
    thanks again

I used to knit a lot and this really sounds so familiar! I can remember reading and re-reading patterns until I felt like throwing the lot in the bin! I would eventually get it if I read each bit really slowly but it can really hurt your brain can't it!!!
