I found this great site http://www.zipvit.com/ for getting vitamins and supplements at remarkably reduced prices but can't find a similar for sprouting seeds.
Buying seeds for sprouting from my local health food shop is very expensive. Does anybody out there know of an Internet site where I can purchase seeds at a good reduced price. Your help would be most appreciated.

I am just about to start doing this, I thought you can make any beans (dried)for this and they are very cheap, I think that you have to soak then in water over night to get them going. I will be ineterested to see answers from people whi know!Loretta0 -

Unfortunately, the seeds/beans that you want are not readily available from your local supermarket so one has to pay over the odds for them from health food shops.
If you want to sprout your own seeds there is some useful information here http://www.allorganic.net/sproutseeds.html0 -

Sorry if I give unwanted advice, as you may already know how to sprout seeds!
I regularly sprout my own soy, mung and alfalfa. I only buy from health food shops to ensure it's all organic, as seeds tend to absorb harmful materials.
You soak soy for 8 hours, mung for 4 hours, alfalfa for 2 or 3 hours then you pour the water away and keep the seeds on a windowsill in a clear plastic container or a large jar. Then you rinse them morning and evening - in the summer at midday also.
Within a couple of days the seeds will begin to sprout and the nutrient content rises dramatically: protein, vitamin C and various enzimes especially. The best time to eat them is within 4-5 days but this may vary.
With regard to mung beans, I often let them grow into leaf. This is a small, pretty double leaf, and when each is about 1 inch long, I cut them and steam them as a green. Add a little butter and yum!
You have to experiment but basically you should eat them not before 3 days and not after 7 days when the nutrient content drops slightly as the plant, which is what it is now becoming, will use them for itself.
That's how I have been doing it for years for myself.
I tried also wheat (this needs soaking overnight) but I find the sprouted version far too sweet for me.
Hope you enjoy this very wholesome and healthy food. After all there's no fresher food than one eaten while it's still growing!Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
I've always got my mung beans, chick peas etc from Indian shops where I buy a large bag and keep them in plastic lidded buckets under the stairs. I've never bought organic and as I always rinse well before I soak and throw away the water they have been soaking in overnight I've never knowingly had a problem with residues on the seeds/pulses.
The only warning I would give is not to be too generous to start with. You may be very surprised by how much your seeds/beans expand after soaking and when they have sprouted so you end up with a jar stuffed full of sprouts when you thought you'd only put a few in the bottom of the jar.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
