Urgent - Party bag help!

I'm having a joint party on Friday for my 5yr old ds and 6yr old dd. Had bought all bits for party bags (same for both ages as they are so close). Now having nightmare over the girls ones as I've looked inside the books I'd chosen and they are far too old (print too small etc, storyline). Don't know why I didn't check this before - that will teach me to order online from The Book People. Can reuse the books for next/following year, so not the end of the world.

BUT, what can I put in instead - don't do plastic, hence the books. Have approx. 23 girls bags to do (will range in age from just 5 to nearly 7). Would like to do all the same. (Bags already have packet of sweets, coloured ballpoint pen and a balloon). The boys bags had a hotwheels car as well as the above, so were easily sorted.

Can't afford any more than £1 tops.

Any ideas for anything easily available from the shops? Also, that preferably fits inside a standard party bag!

Thanks
Now proud Mumto3 :j

Are the books to old to be read to them?
I have used the cake mix kits before and they always go down well asda do a cute kids fairy cake one for about 80pence I think.
Or Primark do nice "bits" for girls I got all my dd's friends some really cute girly sarongs reduced to £1 and sunglasses each for thiers from there.

  • Ummmm.......Small writing pads to go with the pen? sticker sheets? My daughter got one of those small packs of tissues with the pictures printed on in a party bag recently, which I thought was a really good idea.

I know what you mean about plastic bits - I hate some of the horrible plastic tat you can get for party bags!

How about bouncy balls? Most kids love them! Asda do some ok party bag things which aren't to badly priced. How about some hair clips/bands?

    Good Luck!

The sunglasses idea is a good one! I've seen them reduced in lots of places over the last couple of weeks. I'd think most of them (and parents!) would be happy with them too.

Sunglasses are reduced in Woolworths, I picked up a set for my little piglet and they were reduced down from £3 to £1 :D

Thanks all - some great ideas. I've made a list and am going to hit the shopping centre tomorrow.

Love the sunglasses, but don't think I'll be able to get 23 pairs reduced!

Thanks again, you've given me hope :j

  • Hi, I haven't read all the responses but if you have a Matalan near you they have most bundles of hair accessories reduced. It may be an idea to buy a bunch and put a hair bobble in each bag. Also, at our Tesco they have animal pencils with rubbers ontop which are really nice. They cost £1.00 for 10/12. Some include a red and black pencil with ladybird topper etc....

I would have bought these for my daughters birthday had they been around.
  • Regards the sunglasses H&M have boys and girls ones reduced to £1.00. Also hair accessories and other bits. Good Luck.

Have you got a home bargins near you? If so they have some really cheap stuff in that you could use in the bags From art stuff, hair clips, little toiletries for kiddies, punch balloons, fairy cake mix, have a look if you have one near by. I'm sure you will get something that won't break the bank.
