Can fabric conditioner go off?

Just before my little one was born there was an offer on fabric conditioner at Costco and I ended up with about forty gallons. A year and a half or more later and there is still some left as I only use separate fabric conditioner for little bear with his non-bio tablets, while we use Bold powder. After careful reading of this board, as soon as it is used up I shall immediately start using white vinegar.
However, I went to put some into the machine this morning and it is like half set Angel Delight, which I am sure is not quite right. It smelled fine, but is it okay to use? If not, what do you do with four gallons of rotten fabric conditioner?
Thank you for any polite suggestions.

Can you dilute it down with water and mix it up? I have found the concentrated ones can be a bit 'lumpy' but I always dilute mine down with water and give them a good shake. I don't imagine it can go 'off' as such....The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Thank you for your posts.
It's comfort, but it's not the concentrated version. I think I will try diluting it a little. Actually I may dilute it a lot. In many ways I am looking forward to changing to vinegar because I am getting truly sick of the stuff.
After looking at all the posts on here I will be, I think, switching to own brand bio powder with vinegar as conditioner. My little bear seems remarkably resilient and I am confident he can cope with the bio. He is unfortunately in disposable nappies, so the most sensitive area will not be affected.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
