I have had my Hotpoint for 5 years now and for four of them paid about £65 a year breakdown cover which in every year has been used!
I have now not renewed the cover and suspect it will fail again in next few months (perhaps) or not
I am curious as to whether its better to rent instead of buy, any experiences, good deals, idealy new and ideally a Bosch as they have a quiet brushless motor on them however I am open to other suggestions.
Thought maybe I could get a few pounds for mine while it still works!

have a look at the COMET auction website - there are normally some good deals there. Alt John Lewis normally have extended warranties, that they do not charge additional for (was the case previously, not sure any more). One day I want to be the pigeon...... and not the statue!0

Check the https://www.which.co.uk site for brand reliability,(you can probably get a free trial?) then choose one of those brands. We use our machine about 10-14 times a week, it breaks down about every 18 months and it was a cheapish one(not including a dryer). When it does, we have a reliable local repairman, who usually comes out the next day.
No extended warranty and so far its been cheaper to replace it about every three years with another costing around £250 with about £100 of repairs in its life, hence total of about £118 per year in capital outlay.
Does this help?0 -
We had a cheapie Hotpoint - £165-ish, and it lasted us 5 years. It needed two repairs - one cost us £5 by sourcing the spares and doing it ourselves, the other cost us £25 by calling out a (very) local repairman, capital cost about £40 per year. I would always buy - but I would make sure that it is serviceable by a local repair guy rather than forking out on extended warranties.0
