Petrol - Morrison's or Tesco's?

Anyone got a view about which is the best deal - saving up points on a Morrison's Petrol card and eventually getting a £5 voucher to spend in store or getting 5p a litre off Mr T?

With Morrison's you have to buy 333 litres of fuel for the £5.00 voucher, so that works out as a discount of 1.5p per litre. So if the original cost of the fuel is the same, then the Tesco discount is better. But if the cost of the fuel is different, then you have to take off 5p per litre for Tesco, and 1.5p per litre for Morrison's to work out which is better value.
Quidco cashback paid out so far £745.89 :j

  • Well if you have lpg tanks the size of my husbands, who fills up to 100 litres a go, then the Morrisons vouchers are pretty good!

well to max the tesco clubcard points use a tesco credit card/clubcard which gives extra points, spend £50 and get 5p per litre off and use the clubcard points off deals for Xmas gifts eg Prima mag is only about £6 worth!

Aha. This offer must be why my nearest Tesco's is 4p dearer than the nearest Morrisons. I couldn't work out why. With the voucher it works out 1p cheaper at Tesco's. What a sneaky way to get people to spend £50 on their shopping.

<calls stockbroker to buy shares in Tesco>

    edit:

Nope my maths is wrong. Taking off the 1.5 p at Morrisons makes Tesco 0.5p more expensive, but I'd also get 26 points for a full tank of petrol and 13 points on my credit card which is an extra £1.56 worth of deal points. Which means... nope my brain has exploded.

Is your local Morrisons within a 3 mile drive of the local Tesco ???

Is so they will give you DOUBLE the difference back (in your case 8p / litre) and in theory reduce the cost at their own pumps to the same price.

Doesn't apply just to other supermarkets - just anywhere selling cheaper fuel within a 3 mile radius (driven miles) or 1 mile within the M25

We do not charge the same prices at all our filling stations, but we do monitor all petrol prices within a 3 mile radius (1 mile in London).
If you find petrol cheaper in the local* area, we'll refund double the difference and reduce our price to match. However, we do need your Tesco receipt so that we can process the refund. We will verify the details and refund you double the difference.
    * Local is within 3 driven miles (1 driven mile within M25).

Sounds like a good idea in theory but anyone ever been bothered to ask for double the difference??? It would cost me just as much to travel from one garage to the next.

I have a company car and so the cost of the petrol does not really bother me, I have a Morrisons at the back of my house and a Tesco about 2-3 miles away, but I never spend £50 a time in Tesco, so I guess I'll stick with Morrisons unless I run low when I'm on the road then I go to Tesco or put in enough to get me home and then fill up at Morrisons again.

SUEWRE - How did you work out you need to buy 333 litres to get the £5 voucher, cos I've done 25,000 miles and only received £20 of vouchers and the vast majority of that petrol has been bought from Morrisons.
