Royale Pram = advice needed

Hi there I have been given a Royale pram which is just over 20 years old. My daughter is expecting our first grandchild in December and I am to use this pram for out walking. It is a fabric body and in excellent condition it just needs to be given a wash and brush up but I dont know what to use. The chrome has some rust marks which I will have to get off. Can anyone give me any advice on what to use for the body and also the chrome - preferrable with as little chemicals as possible.
Cant wait to go for long walks with my bouncy (or shogie!) pram
thanks
Suz

Oooh my Mum had a Silver Cross when I was a baby - I love the look of the old style pram - hope they come back into fashion - you could start the trend! Sorry cant help you with the cleaning but it bought back some memories!0

I used to have a Marmet pram for my DS's......before I sold it I polished the wheels & chrome with some chrome polish from my then OH's garage......I'm not sure about the fabric though....what colour is it? Maybe a sponging with weak Stardrops solution would do, and the same on the inside.0

There is a small private company that specialises in restoring prams. Why not drop them a line including a sae and very politely enquire.

Get a tub of 'barkeepers friend' its for chrome and metal work. I restored a few royales and marmets and this works a treat.
Get a sponge scourer and lightly buff off the visible rust then get the barkeeps stuff and apply on a slightly damp cloth or toothbrush depending of the area (its a powder) wipe down the area with a clean damp cloth to remove any residue, it may sound faffy but it does work if you apply enough elbow grease.0 -
I used to clean my soft bodied pram between babies. I would put it in the bath, fill up the inside with lots of warm water add some soap flake or mild detergent, run the shower over the rest of the body, and using a nail brush I would give the fabric a fairly good scrub, concentrating on the grubby bits where the grubby little mitts left their marks.
I did love the high prams, much warmer in the winter than those silly little buggy thing. I had a 2nd hand silver cross coach built for dd no1, but because of the 8yr age gap I had to get another pram for dd no2, it was a new Marmet, but it went on to serve dds no3&4, and I kept them in it 'til they were about 2yo.
Oooh, I'm feeling all broody now

Many thanks for all your replies - will head off to lakeland and get barkeepers friend, and I can assure you there is plenty of elbow grease willing!!! Will pick up a soft nailbrush too for the outside - fortunately there are no grubby bits its just a general freshen up. It is a lovely mid powder blue (which is great especially since it is a wee boy!!!!!) There does seem to be a comeback with high prams around here - many of the silver cross coachbuilt, personally I agree in regard to being warmer and keeping them in it til they are a fair bit older than some of these wee buggies. I have started crocheting the blankets - nothing beats lovely cosy blankets since it is the week before christmas she is due. Will keep an eye on ebay too for the old sun canopies, as we are just on the outskirts of town so many a walk will be in the country - cant wait!!!!
thanks again.Every days a School day!0
