Dentures advice needed

Hi advice needed,I am having a problem with my bottom dentures, they fit quite well. I have been using Polygrip to keep them in but while eating a meal they end up moving, I then have to take them out and manage without them which is not ideal. I have tried using the polygrip in different amounts but still struggling, could anyone recommend a denture fixative, and any tips would be most appreciated. Thanks

Try Seabond 'lowers' - about £3 per pack of 15 from Boots. Soak one in warm water for about 5 minutes and put it in place on the denture. My ma always swore by them.

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Health board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

We almost certainly have similar threads over there already so you may find some good replies there too.

sorry, just noticed.
• Hi,
As a dental nurse of 20+ experience,I'm sorry to have to tell you that you need new ones because the bone has shrunk.Alternatively, you can have them relined by a dental technician as this is much cheaper.Look in the yellow pages for one. In the meantime, try polygrip ultra. It's not ideal, but it will tide you over. Hope this helps

We don't have enough information to know this for sure yet.

We don't know if this is an old set, or a new set.
How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Thanks for the response they are fairly new the first set wouldn't settle and after having them altered a few times the dentist had new ones made for me but once again, I am having trouble with them while trying to eat, I am using a fixative which is holding the teeth firm but while trying to eat a meal they become loose halfway through the meal. Thanks again

Have you just lost your teeth or have you been a denture wearer for some years?

Hi I have had dentures for about 6 months, the Top set has been trouble free. After having the bottom teeth renewed because the first set wasn't quite right, I again was unable to eat a meal without them coming out so instead of persevering I put them in the draw and managed without them. That wasn't satisfactory because I am limited to what I can eat, so I am trying again. I wore them all day on Tuesday so I looked better but failed on the meals, I did manage to eat half of a dinner before they became loose, I then had to remove them to finish my meal, so any help would really be appreciated. Thanks
