Is there anyway he can pay less tax?

hello, my partner works 62 hours a week as a mechanic (for a measly wage) is there any way that he is entitled to a reduction in tax because of how long he works for.

I don't think its right that he works all the hours god send when joe bloggs down the road can work half the amount of time in a less skiled job and he still pays the same amount of tax.

The amount of tax due is independent of how many hours worked, it is solely based on the amount of money an individual receives in one tax year.

So, if your partner worked 62 hours at half the wage rate of someone working 31 hours, they would both earn the same amount. So the tax they paid would also be the same.

    Sorry to disappoint you.

Two people who earn the same amount of money do not necessarily pay the same amount of tax.

True..but in the basic explanation given they were correct. someone working 62 hours per week for 6.00 perhour would pay the same tax as someone earning 12.00 an hour for 31.00 hours. This assuming they are the same age and have no additional tax allowances such as expenses, professional subscriptions etc.

A way to pay less tax would be if you are not working yourself then you could get a job and your partner could work less hours. This way you would both have a tax free allowance - that would mean you could recieve £4895 without paying any tax on it - and so could you husband. This would save you over £1000 per year in tax.
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
