Overseas Worker

I work for a UK comapny and am paid into my UK account monthly. I work in Italy for this company during the year and return only between beginning of October and mid December and mid April through to mid May. Does this entitile me to a tax rebait or am I at the mercy of the taxman on this one..

  • I take it you mean on your earnings? Do you claim all your business expenses? have you an accountant? Do you complete a UK tax return? Do you pay tax in Italy on your earnings?
I suggest you contact HMRC - I don't think you would be eligible for UK non-resident status (about 9 months away each tax year) which would have meant no UK tax liability at all.

I used to live and work abroad but spent too much time in UK to qualify for no tax status - hope you have better luck - it will depend on the amount of time each "tax year".
