lavender bags and things

Options
OK so I know this won't make me rich but its a thought to get a few pennies... I thought about making lavender bags and other bits and bobs to sell at craft fayres.

How much would I sell them for and well, would I sell them?

I'd go to your local fairs, have a look around and see what others are selling. If theres a similar product then theres already a market for your items. If there isn't a stall selling them or somthing like them, then get them made, get maybe a selection of 10 to 20 made and sell them at a stall at a local fair. There maybe a hidden spot in the market for you to sell.

If you know anyone who sells at a market, why not ask if you can inhabit their stall (give them a bit of the stall cost) and test the water so to speak.

If you also require a website to sell via I could set one up for you. I am starting an ebook store myself and have a few sites under construction (although I am going on holiday for the next week or so) let me know if you want to chat about a website :)

    Hi
I make lavender bags, hottie bags, peg bags etc, here are a few things to consider.
If you sell them at local fete's/fairs it will cost £10 to £15 for a stall. Last year 5 out of the 8 fairs I'd booked to attend were cancelled due to bad weather.
Car boots can be cheaper, but not always & it depends on what area you are in as to what sells, trial & error is the only way to decide on that.
I sell most successfully to people I work with but that only gives me an audience of 20 to 30 people. If you work for a large company so much the better.
Costs are another consideration, to buy new fabric & trimmings is expensive, I buy sheets etc to cut up from charity shops. You also need to keep up to date on what's in & what's not.
    Hope this helps

Sounds interesting :) I love homemade stuff...What other things do you make?
  • I am a fundraiser for a breast cancer charity and if we are at a fete and have a stall we will often sell things like lavender bags in our charity's colours (one of our volunteers has a big lavender plant and a sewing machine!). We sell them very cheaply - about 50p per bag and put a charity sticker on them. Do you know anyone who is part of a local charity group that you could do pass your madebags onto for a small fee?
  • Hi Rainbow,
I also make cloth shopping bags, handbags from recycled clothing, knit scarves & make crochet squares into blankets. I tend to wander round craft fairs & get ideas from them. Making stuff isn't a problem, finding somewhere to sell stuff can be.

  • I'm hoping to make use of my own lavender plants by making lavender bags/hearts to give as stocking filler xmas pressies.

Perhaps if you give them out in that way you could increase the number of people seeing them and build on it from there.

    Good luck!

  • I've found when selling crafted items that I usually can't go wrong if I price my products at three times the cost to make. You can experiment from there by lowering/raising the price until you find the price that does the best in your area.
