NHS Student Bursary

Hi
In 2004 I started a nursing diploma and received an NHS Student Bursary. I had to leave the course after 10 months and it was discovered that they had overpaid me by £1700. I offered to make payments of £20 per month (in September 2007) which was all I could afford and they refused to accept. My parents at the time had their house on the market and rang them and offered £50 and said they would pay the rest when they had sold their house. My parents house didn't sell and now they are struggling and can't afford to pay £50 a month to them. I can't afford to pay it either as we are still struggling with dh's debts.
I went BR last week and I wondered if it was included in my Bankruptcy or not. I didn't list it as I had forgotten all about it. Or is it one of those debts that is not covered by Bankruptcy.
Thanks
Emma

Just send a quick note to your OR with details of who the debt is to and he will notify them you are BR.
As an aside if say in 6 years time a creditor from before your BR appears then all you have to do is give them your BR details and say 'bye, bye'. Even though you didn't include it in your petition it is still covered by your BR.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Thanks Tigerfeet.
I just wasn't sure if it was covered or not by the BR. Should I write to the NHS Student Grants unit and tell them I'm BR too? Will it be ok telling the OR about this debt as I'd forgotten all about it?
thanks

Better telling the OR now rather than later on .. it's not like you've deliberately tried to hide it from him/her.:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0

Thanks for that... i got a £500 over payment which im about to declare in bankruptcy. Glad im not alone. Exactly the same situation...Debts incurred through illness and homelessness, starting a degree in September, going bankrupt in November and having a well deserved fresh start in January 2009! Bring on the new year! Interested in thrifty living, and if its green all the better for it! xxx0

Hi Blueopal
Glad to hear I'm not the only one owing the student grants unit. Am pleased that I can add it to my BR. I was worried I was still going to have to negotiate with them as I found them pretty impossible to negotiate with.
