Advice - putting my name on partners mortgage

Hi,

my partner and i bought a house 2 yrs ago this october. The mortgage is solely in his name as when we did the credit checks prior to applying i found 2 CCJ's on there.
After checking them out we found that a previous partner had put a phone package and a credit card in my name. As the CCjs were granted in my absence ( i didn't get any post etc as they were registered at ex partners old address, he was filtering the post), i have been told i cannot do anything about it.

I paid the solicitors fees etc and contribute half of mortgage each month as well as paying most of the household bills.
Partner paid the 5% deposit and pays half mortgage monthly as well as a couple of bills.

Both of us work full time and both have a good salary. (40% tax band).

Our fixed rate ends in October, to put my name on the mortgage would the existing lender need to credit check me and give us a new mortgage, or could partner keep the exisiting lender and apply to have my name added?

Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,

As far as i am aware, because i am currently doing this backwards, if you want to be added you will be credit checked. If you wanted to keep the same lender, i dont think it would be a problem.

I am just taking my details off a mortgage and the supporting paper work that came with it said, for the new borrowes you will need to send three months pay slips, proof of ID, e.g passport, driving licence. Two proofs of residency for new borrower.

Also you need to insruct your solicitor to get the title deads changed in to both names.

I believe this is correct, although may vary slightly by lender.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

You could apply to add your name, but your risk profile needs to be in line with lenders criteria. Impossible to predict whether you will be accepted with any certainty, so really it's a case of suck it and see.

Your partner can keep the existing mortgage, indeed it's really the only option as no other lender will entertain a remortgage as house prices have fallen, and furthermore, the high ltv deals on offer have uncompetetive rates.

    Best of luck
