Cream in the Slow Cooker

Hi there

Thought I might get my slow cooker out today and was thinking something along the lines of chicken, leeks, mushrooms with herbs in a cream sauce ....... would it be ok to put everything in together or would putting cream in at the beginning of cooking not be a good idea?

Thanks

Pretty sure with slow cookers you need to put cream in right at the end as cooking it for so long can cause it to split and curdle.

ShelBell is right. Stir the cream in just before serving. I do that with all recipes in my slow cooker and it still seems to work. You sometimes need a bit of stock though if you are leaving the slow cooker unattended all day.

  • Thanks very much - I put some stock in with it and then added the cream at the end but it ended up just like milk (too much stock methinks) so I ended up straining off the veggies n chicken then heating the cream in a pan (it thickened slightly) then adding in the chicken mix.

Maybe next time I could not add as much stock and then heat the cream before I stick it in with the rest?!?
