    Using common applications like the MS Office suite, knowing about computer memory, types of computers, legal aspects of ICT.

    Look at the syllabus for ECDL, module 1 as far as "general" is concerned. However "good" depends on the level of the job - you need the job description as well as the person specification.

    The only people that can clarify that are the ones who wrote it. The fact that you pave posted on an internet forum means you have a general knowledge of IT...but could you do pivot tables at the drop of a hat [I consider that to be basic Excel and yet others think it is advanced].

    So, just ask them. Or confirm that you have what you consider to be a good general knowledge of IT.
  • I would consider "good general knowledge" to be
    * Switching pc on/off.
    * knowledge of peripherals; keyboard, mouse etc.
    * Basic knowledge of networks and comuter hardware.
    * Ability to type and print documents.
    * Knowledge of the internet; search engines, blogs etc.
    * Emails; sending, receiving, cc , bb, attachments etc.
    * knowledge of different operating systems; windows, linux etc.
    * Working knowledge of popular software packages;word, excel, publisher etc.

    Good Luck!
