computeach-advice?

hi there
OH has come to a dead end in his career and is looking for a future career in computing. Has anyone had any experience with computeach as its an awful lot of money to pay for the course. Any help much appreciated.

  • I work in IT recruitment and although I've never been on one of their courses, a lot of my candidates have. They seem to value the courses and it certainly helps them find employment.

Yes they are the best and most stable provider.... (well thats what I thought)
see my second post, just goes to show they have let slip training for greed.

@ Katie Bell Can you PM me who you work for or how I get in the IT trade.

    Many Thanks Mr Skint

Their support is very iffy if my experience is anything to go by, I spent £4k on a course and may as well have thrown the money over the edge of a pier!!r All I have to show for the money is one a4 binder full of utterly useless industry jargon, with questionaires to fill out by the score, perhaps my selection of course was not the right for me but that should have been dealt with and wasn't by them, a bad experience for me but I'm sure there is someone out there that has gained from their experience, if your doubtfull about and in need of the money I'd say don't risk it.

I shall edit my first post as now its 4 grand, Bloomin Heck
and there service has gone downhill then, I can see you did your
training more recently than me by the look of the costs...

Even though I did mine with AMRAF I spoke to a guy from Computeach
mind you I do feel that an OU or night course is cheper and better.

    Oh yeah AMRAF went bust.
  • All offered courses are essentially money making schemes, my advice would be go to college and get an academic qualification and then look at doing an "industry" qualification in whatever it is you are interested in (i.e. os,databases, networks).

The vendors of the major products will all have their own "professional" qualifications which will blind your avergage employer into submission.

Be aware that they can be fairly expensive and it may be better to get an academic qualification and then work your way into a company at a low level and get sponsorship to do professionsal exams once you have a bit of experience under your belt and have an idea about what parts of the industry you actually enjoy. Its a wiiiiiide field!

i NEARLY signed upto computeach last year for a course, but decided not to go ahead as the course i was going to do which was computer networking by the time i would have completed the course what i ad learnt would have been outdated and 5k was alot of money.

the salesman/interviewer was also pushy and seemed more interested about course prices than helping me make the right decision.

open university would be a better option.

i myself have started a course learning from home using logic pro which is a audio production software, all i have to pay for was the course book and dvd and the exam fee which altogether was about £105 and hopefully will end up with an apple certified qualification.

i will start a final cut pro editing course after i have completed the above, but that will cost alot more.

goodluck! and take a look at the open university website.
  • i looked at them after seeing an ad on t.v.
no prices for courses but you will get called back and a visit.............................no thanks....................tell me how much first and THEN i might try you out.

  • You can't mean that the OU are obscure about prices, surely???

    Look on this page http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?Q02B29
and you will find the cost of doing a degree in computing.

Of course, a degree would take you at least 3 years. But I do think that many employers would employ you (assuming you are personable, have a reasonable career history etc etc) once you had proved yourself on the OU course - maybe by completing the first module - and let you continue studying whilst you worked for them. They might even pay for you to complete your degree! :T

I've been through the home interview thing with them. Computeach refuse to tell you prices till you've sat through a presentation, and filled in an appitude test. The test is a doddle with questions like: what does www stand for? Naturally you'll pass with flying colours and be told how brilliant you are and suitable for the course. If you then say you can't afford it, you get the hard sell on an expensive loan from them.

I would avoid them at all costs and either try the OU or bricks and mortar colleges/universities. You can get help if you are on a low income, or low cost loans to help with OU courses, and I think you can with normal colleges/uni too.
Here I go again on my own....
