Options
Hi think this is my first post in here so a big hello to all.

just had to empty the kids sand pit out as they left it open and about 1000 flys were in it. I dont want to throw all the sand out, but they cant play in it anymore. so any ideas on how i could recycle it? thanks
i used to hate it when aunts and grans would come up to me at weddings pinch my cheeks and say "your next, your next". well they stoped that crap when i started to do the same to them at funerals:rotfl:

I used mine as lawn sand.

I also put it the old fashioned garden umbrella holder. It was many moons ago.

    Hello and welcome

You could use it mixed with garden soil for plants which require a sandy soil as the sand will make it free draininglike. Many herbs like a free draining soil. In a raised bed or pot carrots and parsnips will enjoy a sandy soil mix.

Also, you could use it to lay slabs:rotfl:

hi, just thought i'd pop in :D

i don't know if this is at all true,

    But ...

on 'Doctors' on BBC1, students were getting sick and it was because of sand, which the doctor said, could spread disease, get infected etc. (which they had used for an indoor beach party several times)

now i don't know if this is true or not, but it is worth taking into consideration, at least make sure it can't spread germs to your garden.

alternatively ignore my belief in what i see on t.v.!:rotfl:

  • Surely unless i am mistaken, not that you would perhaps want to do this -
anyway - you can sterilise soil by heating it up to a certain temperature and it kills everything.

Whilst its a hassle can't you do the same for the play sand, as its not cheap and then put it through a seive?

Can dig out the temps and time if you want?

If not, do you grow carrots, odd question i know, but for the perfect carrot you need a very sandy soil or a bed improved with sand....

or add to pots, top dress grass, chuck over paving and patio for a kind self walk over clean (the grains will abrase any algal growth).
