There's far too much choice!
I want some good quality speakers with good bass but not necessarily a subwoofer. I was thinking about getting the JBL Creature Speakers from ebay but I don't know if there's anything else that would do just as well.
I saw some JBL normal speakers but have got no idea about the quality.
It doesn't have to be JBL, but they mustn't hum when on standby

I've got the built in one on my ABIT KV8-MAX3. It should be able to handle anything I throw at it. It's also got 5.1 surround support (I think) but I won't need that because I've not got the room.0

The quality isn't too good on them (unless digital ones exist now) and I don't need to keep quiet(!)0

If you've got the space, may I recommend these speakers? I've bought a couple of sets for friends and family with onboard sound cards (same chipset as yours), and they're more than happy. No one's complained about any humming!
The only thing you'd need to find the space for is the subwoofer :-)
Or, if you're wanting to spend a bit more, my sister's just bought this set, and I don't recollect hearing them hum either when at her house!0 -

I beg to differ on that one. You can do a lot better than a pair of tinny cheapo speakers whatever you have. Some of them are truly awful!
From my limited experience of PC speakers, Harmon-Kardon ones seem to have a decent amount of bass for their size.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
