With regards to cancelling direct debits for magazine offers, I used to do this but then I never received the final free/cheap magazine. Having considered the matter I decided that it was no great hassle to email them (details should be in the email you receive from the magazine itself when you take our your subscription) to cancel, that way I receive any remaining copies plus I never get any letters or emails hassling me afterwards. Good manners as well I suppose when you think about it.
You should still cancel the direct debit with your bank after contacting the magazine just to be on the safe side.2020 Wins:

Strange as I've never had that... as they don't know you have cancelled your direct debit until they go to take the money for the first issue outside of the trial; which is normally AFTER you receive your final trial magazine.:)Lost lbs =
