In the terms and conditions they say this:

While we have automatic processes in place to identify these types of transactions, we also manually check all orders every day. Where a free gift is included with a Direct Debit-based offer, unless otherwise stated, it is only available to customers who continue beyond the special offer trial (ie once the first full-price amount has been debited from their bank account). Seems you'd have to pay the £35 for 26 issues after the £1 direct debit to get the free gift. Does anyone have experience of this?
