Admin order & Bank accounts

Options
Hi

I really need some advice. Due to a relationship breakdown, I was left with alot of debts. I took advice from the Courts and was advised to set up an Administration order, as this would help me repay the debts at a manageable amount each month from my salary.

I pay my salary into my sister's bank account and its really not a good solution, so I have been applying for basic bank accounts as all I want is to be able to pay my rent etc by DD and get money from a cashpoint. However, I get rejected each time for an account as when a credit check is run, it shows that I am bankrupt even though this is not the case, each rejection letter states that I need to prove that the bankrupt status has been discharged. I contacted the Court and they can not understand why I am getting rejected as according to them an Admin order should not stop me from getting an account.

I feel fed up because I am trying to pay my debts back, yet if I declared myself bankrupt after a set amount of time I would be able to get a basic bank account, it does not make sense to me so any advice would be gratefully received,

Thank you in advance.

Have you checked your credit reference files to see what is on there? That is very odd!

You can try applying for either the Coop Cashminder account. That is available to genuine undischarged bankrupts, so even if there is something strange happening with your credit reference files you should be able to get that.

Or the alternatively the Barclays Cashcard account.

I used to have an admin order and had no problems opening a bank account at all so you should not either. An admin order is no way near the same as a bankrupt and I was still able to obtain credit while the order was running (bank loans etc). I would find out if there is something else as the above poster has said as it is very unusual. The co-op would normally give you an account even with problems.

    Hi Windsor70

The Coop account as Fermi suggests is a good option. Also if you use the following link Basic Bank Accounts, and in the Basic bank accounts section click on publications, it will provide you with a list of basic accounts and what benefits the account offers.

    Hope this helps

    Hi All

Thank you very much for your replies, I think its very strange too. Fermi, I will definitely check my credit reference files, however when I spoke to a woman at Lloyds, she told me it was because I appear to be bankrupt. I am going to try Barlcays to see if they will help (fingers crossed).

    Once again thanks Fermi, Jac/Norm & CCCS_Alan
