National March Against Poverty 2008

Let's bloody have one!!!
Let's get it sorted, October, London. Every single person who is suffering at the hands of this government hit the streets of London and peacefully show we have simply had enough.
Energy, pensions, food, petrol, house prices, wage cuts, job losses, we are all getting it from every angle. Let's stand up and be counted and say enough is enough before we are all on Prozac.
As Martin keeps telling us, it's not the fault of the Energy companies we are being ripped off by them. They are capitalist non-caring companies with one mission, to make money for their shareholders. But at least you know what they are.
As Martin also keep saying, this suffering and extreme hardship we are all facing is down to politicians. They are the truth-avoiding wasters who can do something about it, and what do they do? Buy another house in London for the au-pair.
So let's hit the streets. Let's show them that we have had enough.
If we don't they will keep hitting us and we will sink fso far down we can't get back up.
I marched on the streets of London against the Poll Tax. I'm not daft enough to think us marching stopped poll tax coming in, but we made them sit up and think, "hang on a minute, this many people have bothered to come to London on their day off from work and demonstrate their opposition to what we are trying to do, maybe we have gone a little too far this time"
Let's get organised and show this government, (and Cameron's next one), that they cannot just walk all over us and bring misery into our lives.
Come on Martin, start the ball rolling.:money:

Cheaper than the train (even if I would have to go via Dublin?)!
Maybe they could march against credit card charges by low cost airlines at the same time ... :TGone ... or have I?0 -

Ever heard of the Jarrow March?
If people are p'd off enough about things they'll find a way to get there, that's the whole point. Anyone can sit at home moaning, that's easy and worthless.
You seem to be defeated already with the sarky comments you're putting on here. Well maybe not everyone wants to lay down and be trampled on, maybe some people do want to stand up and show their disatisfaction at the state of things. What's wrong with that?
Thanks

I am not defeated, I have found ways (in the majority through MSE) to ensure that I am not in poverty. It is called being proactive, and taking responsibility for my own life, not blaming everybody else.
What do you think that the march will achieve?
Gone ... or have I?0 -
Fair enough, good for you, well done and i'm trying to do loads of stuff like that aswell.
I'm just fed up of sticking plasters on great big sores. I don't want to stick another MSE (brilliant and worthy though they are) plaster on myself. I want to do something about the disease that is causing the sores-poverty caused by greedy capilitalists itself. What's wrong with that?
A National March would achieve a coming together of people from all over Britain who, possibly throught no fault of their own have found themselves selling their belongings on ebay.
A National March would make politicians sit up and think, "hey, we better get our finger out and do something about this"
A National March would achieve national press coverage, highlighting the fact that the "credit crunch" (nice Cereal Bar make-it-sound-not so bad-name Daily Telegraph, or whoever invented it), is not just a phrase used on breakfast telly. It is an everyday hell for someone people.
A National March would give people like me, reassurance in the fact that not only are there millions like me, but also hundreds of thousands like me who can't believe it is happening and want to do something about it. It is better to have tried in vain and all that.
A National March would give people like you chance to explain to others how they can make thing s a little better for themselves by doing the things you mention. Not everyone has access to the Internet or knows how to use it.
A National March ending in a big rally attended by carefully chosen speakers like Martin and other inspiring people, could give hope to people who see ni light at the end of the tunnel.
And if you don't wanna come, no probs.

There is no poverty of any kind in the UK.
There are lots of hard working people who are taxed at criminal rates to support the lazy, immoral benefit scroungers and THEY and only THEY are the problem in this country.0 -

Oh dear this is going to be a fun thread !
