Help with Relatives Staying

Can anyone help me, my DH's uncle and aunt are coming to stay with us, it is the first time they have been outside of Ireland so I determined to make it a special stay for them, they are with us for 5 days and nights and I will be cooking at home most of it because we are on a very tight budget at the moment, so I am looking for ideas for lunches and dinners that taste nice look nice and are quite reasonable in price, on one of the nights I fancied doing a nice 3 course dinner. BUT and this is where the problem comes in, my DH's uncle does not eat vegtables, Fish or Pasta and considering that is the main part of our diet, I am not comig up with many ideas.
I also want to make the spare room look as nice and as cozy as I can for them, I have got all nice bedding in there and cleaned out all my junk so they can use wardrobes etc, I will of course provide a load of nice clean towels for them to use and some little bits like mini body lotions, soaps etc, but what else should I put in the room ?
Just panicking I guess as we have never had anyone stay with us for more than a night before and I really want to make this so special for them.
Any help would be much appreciated

some flowers in a room makes it special
What about
a really nice roast with all the trimmings - yorkies, stuffuing, sausgaes in bacon,
a salad type buffet if it is hot with french stick / fresh rolls, eggs, ham,
bbq with posh burgers and bangers with jkt spuds and veg kebabs.
What about a really nice homemade curry with the accompaniements to make it special - ryita, fresh mango reish / salsa, bombay pots, poppadom, naan bread
Lunches - homemade thick soups, ploughmans0 -
For the room, a carafe with water and two glasses. When I really want to spoil friends or relatives, I sometimes put a little carafe with sherry or port and assorted glasses. I also usually leave some nice magazines and easy-read books lying around.
Another idea is providing a cotton dressing gown (if you have a spare one) for them to use.
Remember to provide sufficient hangers in the wardrobe (I'm always short)."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -

Crikey! What does he eat? How about cottage or shepherds pie (unless he is strict with his no veggies rule and doesn't eat potatoes!) You can "hide" the carrots and onions in them!
Or Pizza - unless he is off tomatoes too....you can then do meat and cheese....hmm. I would probably ask his dear lady what he eats, and plan as much around that!
Flowers in the room would be nice - or a plant, which will last longer, and you will get the benefit of as well! Try to be MSE in all your endeavours!
Other than that, don't worry! They are coming to see you, and I am sure that they will feel special no matter what!:A FLY FIRST, KNIT LATER :A0 -
A home made burger
Home made kebab
Very meaty stew or stifado -beef with red wine and baby onions
A curry with chipattis, naan and dips- its up to him if he eats the rice
Steak n chips0 -
Daisymac,
Your OH's uncle sounds like a typical middle-aged Irishman....if he doesn't eat veg that is his problem, just let him have his meat and potatoes and the rest of you can be kind to your bodies and have the veggies.
I would suggest that you do things like shepherds pie...use oatmeal, grated carrots or soy mince to bulk it up; see if you can get some yellow stickered beef, lamb or pork for a roast dinner; bacon and cabbage; home-made burgers and chips; beef stew and potato.
My guess is that he will be on his very best behaviour as a guest in your home and will eat whatever you put in front of him, so I wouldn't worry too much, you should be fine so long as you don't give him pasta or rice. If you can a good hearty pudding should also fill the bill and don't forget that he is going to be twice as nervous as you are so just be nice to him and the visit will be a roaring success!

How about home made bread and a lovely ploughmans with a bit of local/expensive cheese, plenty cheaper cheddar, some pickle, some nice salad, some crisps etc ?
Homemade potato cakes, with scrambled egg and crispy bacon ?
Homemade chicken soup with bread ?
What about a mixed grill ? Loads of butchers would do a cheapish mixed pack ?
Get whoopsied or BOGOF meat.

How about putting a tea tray in the room, with a small kettle, teapot milk and sugar etc, they may not feel comfortable enough to come down in the morning and make themselves one if you are not up, but could quite happily sit up in bed and have a cuppa.0
