open/large pores on cheeks

I have very large, open pores on my cheeks. I've tried googling it to see what I can do about it, and have only found advice on treating the problem where it is associated with oily skin and blackheads- ie. use astringent toners/cold water to close the pores, and exfoliate.
However, I have combination skin, and strangely enough the open and large pored areas of my face are on my drier areas- ie. the cheeks. There are no blackheads, and nothing in the pores (ie. nothing comes out when you squeeze). So I feel the above treatments methods will be inapropriate as they will make my cheeks drier. They are a real problem area at the moment, as the open pores look horrible, and the dry areas are quite noticeable when I wear foundation, which seems to emphasise the problem somehow, as it settles in the pores and you can see the dry skin beneath it.
I have been using the oil cleansing method (http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/) for a few weeks now (ratio 25% castor oil/75% olive oil, 3 times a week), and there has been an improvement on the oily areas of my face- ie. they are now less oily. Also I used to have a few whiteheads clogging my pores and they are now gone. However it's done nothing to improve the large pores on my cheeks.
Does anyone know what causes open pores on dry areas, and what can I do about it?

Join the club, and also like you no idea as to what caused them either
But they dont look no where near as bad using the OCM every day, moisturising morning and night and exfoliating a couple of times a week.
Im up to about a 40% mix on the ocm now, no longer getting any really dry patches but do get a slight tightness so I do need the moisturiser
I also use mineral make up - a mix of EB and bare escentuals. I always finish off with a good flourish of mineral veil - and pores just seem to vanish.0 -
Thanks Suki. I may try upping the amount of castor oil and see what happens.

What is mineral veil?
Mineral veil is the bare escentuals finishing powder. I think its rice powder and its so fine it doesnt sit in pores or lines. It gives an "airbrushed" finish to your make up.
Actually EB finishing powder does as good a job, just that has a hint of colour and with my t-zone I need to apply little and often so I prefer the BE mineral veil0 -
i also have large pores on my cheeks and my theory on how i got them is from a very young age i worked in very hot very steamy commercial kitchens so i would be going from very hot to cold to hot - i do believe this contributed to the problem at a time when i didnt look after my skin - well who does at 15 ??:j MFi3 wannabee :j
