I find that, because my local Tesco and Asda will accept money-off vouchers for things that I haven't bought, it's definitely cheaper for me to shop at a supermarket. :D

Legitimate Jiffy® Bags? (Customers are impressed by brand names and neat packaging)
    Oh dear..

It came delivered in a genuine Jiffy® bag, but should I mention I bought it on eBay?

    Hi Dormouse,

    I don't think I understand.

Are you saying you could use a £1 discount voucher for, let's say, Pampers nappies, and that would be redeemable against a frozen pizza?

Or have I got that wrong?

    MM :)

At Tesco and Asda, yes. It is not guaranteed that they will accept them though (they are, of course, perfectly within their rights not to).

However, provided they stock the item, and the coupons you are using do not constitute a large proportion of your overall bill (not more than about 25% I think) then they will usually accept them.

Well, basically, yes. ;) See also Gizmoleeds's answer above.

Asda and Tesco usually will take manufacturers' (such as Pampers) vouchers, even if you have not bought the product. Each store usually has their own policy and limit (say 10% of total bill, or 30%), and most stores, in my experience, will allow at least the 10%.

So if you're buying a pizza that costs £1 and nothing else, you won't get away with paying with a £1 PAmpers voucher. However, if you've done a large-ish shop and hand them a Pampers voucher, they usually take it (as they will get their money back for it anyway).

The Vouchers board is the best source of info on this subject. Unfortunately, there is no straightforward policy regarding vouchers, but as I said, in my experience, I can usually get away with getting at least 10% knocked off my bill.

    HTH :)
