Lack of bank statements

Hi again. Me and OH have a date on Aug 26th to go bankrupt. However we are starting to mither about things such as lack of bank statements, credit card statements. The problem is when bills were paid(!) i just chucked receipts etc away, there's enough clutter in this joint already!

We do have a few statements but no way near the 12 months we have read the OR will want.

Last thing is our hearing is 2 days before my wages go into the account we can use(!) and 3 days before our TCs and WFTC gets paid into the account.

Do you think we should change the date 'til the Friday or take the chance that the OR won't have any interest in the account?

We can no way use our current account-both accounts are with the Halifax by the way, and the cashcard account is solely used for my wages, child benefit and tax/working tax credits.

Thanks in advance

Dont worry about the lack of statements. The OR will get these from your creditors. The account should not be a prob, although from the moment you are declared BR, it belongs to the OR. My advice would be to contact IS as soon as you are declared and explain the situation. You should be fine. Good luck
  • Ive got no statements, i literally threw out 1 black bin liner of aquired UNOPENED mail and had long since destroyed old statements. I have written 1 generic letter which I am sending to all creditors asking for confirmation of final debt and statements. Im sure many will not respond but then when I see the OR (Im hoping 1st week of september, u can book 5 days before in oxford) i can at least say i tried.

If tax credits work like benefits you could open a basic post office account and have them paid in there, or into an account which can be opened the same day at a local Credit Union (like mini, local, charitable bank)

If its going to worry you though until then, Id postpone it a couple of days. Life is too short for worry over money... the pre-bankrupt has now decided:A Ohhhhhhhmmmmmmmm:A

The Halifax are very unfriendly. They froze my account the day after I went bankrupt. They took a week to give me back my money even though the OR faxed them immediatly I made him aware of the situation. They also froze and closed my childrens accounts.

Open a Co-op cashminder now and arrange to get your wages/benefits in there asap. Just point out to the OR on the day you go bankrupt that this is the account you opened for your bankruptcy. Or get your next wage/benefits paid into a trusted reletives/friends account untill you can open an account after bankruptcy.

  • You may know better than me but the CAB lady called me back despite being very busy because she also advised me to have my wages put into a friend or relatives account.

However, she called back to say that was ill information as it can affect their credit rating. (my dad had this situation with his partner) One way a discharged bankrupt can improve their credit rating, is a joint account with a good debtor, but it works vice versa so I wouldnt suggest it myself.

I may be wrong but i can only pass on what the CAB told me

Sorry to butt in on this thread... My daughter has a seperate bank account to me but at the same bacnk & branch, with 2 years worth of savings in for her Uni accomodation fees (she's a darned hard worker, proud mum!)
If i go BR... does the bank freeze her accounts too.. what will happen to her Uni money?

Didn't think they'd include kiddies/teens acounts in with their parents ones

They closed my children's accounts because I was named on them. Mine are all little and not eligable for their own accounts yet.

  • I closed my daughters account before we went bankrupt as i was trustee.
Barclays closed our account and sent us a cheque as the OR had no interest in it.
