Who has my deeds to house?

Received a letter from nationwide about my mortgage & in one of the paragraphs it says '' we no longer hold paper copies of your deeds''.

Where are they then:confused:

    They are probably held electronically.
No need for paper these days.

when I remortgaged with Nationwide a few yrs ago, they sent me the deeds and told me to keep them, as they no longer needed them. lisyloo is correct, it's all done electronically now.

if your lender nor you hold them, then its worth checking that the solicitor that acted for you doesnt hold them either.

most likely they have been returned to the Land Registry and destroyed as others have said, its all electronic these days.

shame as its always good to have a document that you can touch and feel.

It's definitely worth chasing the paper copies & I would also recommend that you check the electronic copy - ours was incorrectly computerised and the boundaries were shown about 10 feet out - cost me £200 to get a solicitor to sort it & they needed the paper deeds then as confirmation. Still trying to see if I can get the money back from anyone.

You can obtain copies of your deeds and a plan from the Land Registry at a cost of £4 for the plan and £4 for the deeds. Previous posts are correct it is all done electronically now and if you go back to the Solicitor who acted when you purchased the house they will probably be able to give you a photocopy of both at no cost.
