The delayed action involved in smoothimg should mean that values will continue to go down for a while.

...although values obtained recently have shown improvements on many unitised with profits plans.

I would be more concerned with conventional or the lesser secure insurers.

    Figures update at 6/7/09

    Received new figures today

    Target amount is £30,000

    14th October 2008
    4% 31,830 6% £32,840 8% £33760

    April 24th 2009
    4% 26,480 6% £27,100 8% £27,630

    July 6th 2009
    4% 26,480 6% £276,980 8 % £27,480

    Terminal Bonus is 34%

The policies mature in April and May next year. However I think I can extend them to November when my mortgage is actually repaid

It would cost me approx another £280 to pay 6 further premiums and also I would lose the interest on my matured policies for 6 months

Does anyone think I should extend the policies for the 6 months and hopefully the Terminal Bonus, which I think is critical to my final amounts, might improve still further

    Thanks again for any info/thoughts/help

    Andrew
    Thanks for your help

It would seem silly to delay while projected final values are still on the decline. Arguably it would be better to cash in now before they decline further.

Is there not a school of thought that Terminal Bonus may be on the rise from perhaps June next year??

Only if they have a crystal ball. Pru bonuses and/or MVRs have been improving recently but they are largely dependent on future returns which are unknown.
