Nectar Points going to waste

Quite often, when I go the Sainsbury's the cashier asks the person in front if they have a Nectar card and they don't. So all the points go to waste. I'm quite tempted to ask the person in front of me if they'd like to borrow mine. If they're spending £100, say, I could even pay them twenty pence or something! Would this work, or would the cashier not allow it?

i cant see they would allow this - i also doubt the person in front would be happy to do so for 20p (i know i wouldnt)
I know in my local petrol station the attendant uses their own if the paying customer doesnt have one!!!0 -

im sure this is against company policy to use theyre own nectar card, staff have been sacked for doing this
refering to rbulphs question if the person in front were to say to put the points on the next persons nectar card then thats ok,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -

Why not? If you didn't have a necar card of your own? Just curious.0 -

Yeah, I think I feel a little too awkward about doing it to be honest.0 -
i wouldn't mind giving someone else my nector points as I don't want a card but I'd be insulted if they offered 20p to me. I wouldn't want any money." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I'm interested to know why you don't want a card, lilac_lady? I'm just thinking about signing up for one myself as we shop and buy petrol at Sainsburys quite a lot*, and as far as I can see there aren't any drawbacks - or are there?

Hey folks,
this sounds like a good idea, and I have been stood at many a tesco or sainsburys or boots queue in the past with my necter, clubcard or advantage card out and I have been asked by the other person in front would I like their points.
I know when I worked in boots many moons ago you could be sacked for swipeing your own card and claiming points (the days before chip and pin).
So maybe what us money saving experts need to do, is if we dont have our card with us but see the person behind us in the queue does then offer them the points?
Though i cant think of a time recently where I have been without my points cards lol!!!0 -

I don’t think that’s necessarily all that true. Saving money is all good and all, but I save money so I can spend it on the things I like. One of which is food! So I get my meat from the butchers and veg from the grocers, both of which are more expensive than the supermarkets.
And on the points side of the conversation; I’d imagine that the number points given out by the supermarkets is strongly inversely proportional to the value of the points!! If everyone got the points they deserved, the points you get would be worth a lot less.0
