Re-Mortgage Direct Debit Question

I'm not sure if anyone can help.

I've re-mortgaged from RBS to HSBC and asked for it all to go through on the 1st August. I've checked my bank statements and RBS have taken their monthly payment as usual even though I thought they would know not to take it as I was re-mortgaging.

I've not had anything come out from HSBC.

As I've not cancelled the direct debit have RBS just taken the money as normal (computer systems etc) I assumed as they knew I was re-mortgaging they would not take it. (Silly me?)

Would it be best to call the Solicitor dealing with my re-mortgage or RBS?

Has anyone experienced any similar problems and can suggest the correct action?

Thanks

This happened to me a few years ago when I remortgaged from HSBC to YBS. HSBC took the monthly payment as normal, but then automatically refunded it back to my current account about a week later.

I would contact RBS, but I suspect they may well refund it automatically when they realise what has happened.

Has your solicitor confirmed the funds for the remortgage did acually go through on 1st?

RBS would have applied for for the monthly payment a number of days before payment date and even if they know you are remortgaging until the funds acually change hands will still continue to apply for payments.

As long as your remortgage went through ok RBS will refund any extra money you have paid to you. As far as I know this is done automatically you do not need to apply for it , well thats the way my mortgage company worked when I remortgaged.

Remember also once your solicitor confirmed the completion did take place on 1st August you sould be as well cancelling your old DD for mortgage just to make sure no further payments go out by mistake lol
